How do you fit that many musicians into the front windows of Allans? Very carefully! Those who visited Allans this morning, passers by and listeners were presented with the rather unusual treat of live fine music on Gawler Place. From Stravinsky to Brahms and Jazz standards there was something for everybody to enjoy as the morning passed into the afternoon.

Well we thought we had problems fitting musicians into the Allan’s front window, but this was another dilemma entirely! Fourteen brass players arranged themselves and their trumpets, French horns, trombones, tuba’s, cornets and euphoniums into Studio One in way that resembled a game of Tetris. However, it was all worth it in the end as listeners were rewarded with “Some fine playing and a good experience for all”- Professor Scott.

“It was great to hear both clarinettists Peter Hansworth and Amanda Lovelock play three colourful and contrasting pieces by Ross Edwards (Bin Yang), Gerard Brophy (Twist) and Peteris Vasks (Moments Musicaux). The Vasks piece, written in the 70’s, was particularly strange requiring Peter to sing and cackle through the clarinet among other things. Amanda played the curvaceous ‘Twist’ by Brophy with talent and strength. A rewarding and exciting experience”. – David Harris

“It sounds completely silly but having The Cowtippers in the studio this morning made me feel as though I was back working in radio stations like WSFA or Sterling Records in the late 1940s. Could be something to do with the horseshoe shape they gathered around the mic to sing into, or perhaps the way they plucked their bluegrass/timeless country tunes.
