An
Introduction
The theme for Adult Learners Week 2001 is Making the Connection
- getting connected to learning and using learning as a way of connecting
to the world, the nation, your community and your family.
Adult Community Education in South Australia encompasses a wide variety
of learning activities. It is offered by a diverse range of providers
at many varied learning venues to meet the vastly disparate needs of
South Australians.
Adult Community Education has an important role to play in lifelong
learning and fostering the development of learning communities. Lifelong
learning is far broader than the provision of second chance education
and training for adults. It is based on the view that everyone should
be able, motivated and actively encouraged to learn throughout life.
The five programs in The Learning Connection (and the five programs
from Returning to Learning, produced in 2000) present the perspective
of individuals who are building on their present skills, discovering
learning, and building learning communities.
As this Radio Adelaide initiative will be heard on many community radio
stations across the metropolitan and rural areas of South Australia,
listeners across the state will be challenged to think about the importance
of learning for life. Radio Adelaide is to be commended for the production
of this CD and the examples it contains of lifelong learning in action
in SA.
